Our Purpose
Sisters With A Voice (SWAV) is a program of AID Atlanta and local women leaders for women regardless of health status. The mission of SWAV is to improve the health and quality of life of women in our community. Services and activities include wellness workshops, empowerment activities and conferences, family programs including back to school supplies and backpacks and holiday gift giveaways, feminine hygiene assistance, linkage to free HIV and STI testing and treatment, as well as PrEP services.
The Need

Sisters With A Voice (SWAV) addresses crucial gaps in HIV care, particularly for women of color who frequently encounter stigma and systemic barriers. While private foundation grants often cover basic needs, funding for psychosocial programming remains limited, despite these services being essential.
SWAV provides comprehensive care to women living with or at risk for HIV. This includes free HIV/STI testing and treatment, medical and pharmacy services and case management for HIV-positive members.
The Red Ribbon

A simple loop of red ribbon has been the internationally recognized symbol of support, solidarity, and hope for people living and at-risk of HIV/AIDS, and signifies a sustained commitment to end the epidemic.
The Red Ribbon Sisters is a donor program of AID Atlanta designed to increase individual awareness of AID Atlanta and its programs and services, through the generous support of these individuals.
The Ask
Red Ribbon Sisters recognizes the generosity of individual donors who contribute at least $600 annually in unrestricted, non-event-related gifts to AID Atlanta. It is a giving society of our closest friends and most important supporters wishing to support programs for women. Red Ribbon Sisters has a goal of supporting the program expense of 35 women. Gifts may be made in a one-time payment of $600 or 12 monthly payments of $50.
We engage a core group of over 40 women, many of whom participate on a short-term basis before achieving stability. Our primary success metrics are retention in care and medication adherence.
SWAV Outreach
During 2024 the Sisters With A Voice program was involved with 27 events ranging from staffing Information Booths at Health Fairs, Hosting a Women’s Lounge for Atlanta Pride, a Quilting Bee with The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, as well as Hats Off to Women, Sisters Strike Bowling Event, and Lunch-n-Learn on Medication Adherence and Retention to Care. The program has 252 SWAV members, was assisted and counseled by 126 AID Atlanta program staff and interacted with 2,893 women of Metro Atlanta at public events.
