McCray Iona "Mona" Fitzjohn (John W. Weathers)

Donate to Me

Mona is the eldest daughter of Middleton Calhoun McCray Fitzjohn IV, and his wife, the former Augusta Mary Adelaide Huger. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Alston Seabrook (nee' Annabelle Charlotte Lousia Pinckney) Huger and the paternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Middleton Calhoun McCray (nee' Eleanor Iona Victoria Gervais) Fitzjohn, III. Mona is a life member of the Orange Ladies Chicken Haters Society, the Descendants of American Revolutionary War Patriots of Royal Blood, the Mountain Top Wine and Garden Club, and the Duchess of Dorchester's Conference Call Courtiers.

Growing up on Cow Castle, the family farm in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, Mona developed an early love for getting her hands dirty, as well as enjoying a good mint julep in a monogrammed silver cup. As a budding young member of the Green Clover Club, she received numerous merit badges for bedazzling the leaves of her collection of fine antique roses and completing detailed genealogies for her prized herd of Holstein cows. After completing Miss Minnie Lee's Finishing School where she won Miss Cotton Boll 1989, Mona then received her degree from the South Carolina Agricultural College , where she was a Charter Member of the Alpha Gamma Rhode Hard and Put Up Wets.

Although she’s a big city girl now, Mona has never forgotten her rural roots and Skype's weekly with the girls at the Kizer's Kuntry Kut & Kurl back home to keep abreast of all the goings-on of the jet-setters and the chevrolet-setters in the Lowcountry. After moving to Atlanta in 2000, she has divided her time between the city and the country estate in the mountains of North Georgia. There, she spends her “hobby time” cross-breeding rare iris specimens and assists the Gilmer Wildlife Federation in the monthly counting of bears. In addition, she has put in numerous hours campaigning to free Atlanta's roads from the swarms of drivers incapable of multi-tasking and has tirelessly volunteered her time teaching etiquette and social graces to the international patrons of the World Wide Farmer's Market of Decatur. She also donates much of her time to the Save a Horse - Ride a Cowboy Foundation. Presently, Mona is chairing a national task force aimed at finding an organic remedy for Boston Terrier flatulence.
