PrEP

Over the years, our arsenal of tools to combat new infections has expanded, and none have been as significant as PrEP therapy. Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, entails the daily intake of a single pill by patients in our therapy program. When taken consistently, PrEP provides remarkable protection against HIV infections. Furthermore, when combined with condoms and other prevention methods, its effectiveness is further amplified.

In 2015, AID Atlanta opened the first PrEP clinic in Atlanta and has made significant progress in growing the number of program patients on PrEP. Through our dedicated efforts, the program saw an increase in active patients from 511 to 1,106 by the end of 2022, representing a program high. By July 2023, the program had added 508 new patients.
Our PrEP patients require quarterly lab tests to monitor and ensure their health and well-being while taking the medications. For each uninsured PrEP patient, we incur an annual cost of $300, amounting to $75 per test, four times a year.
