Short-Term Financial Assistance (HOPWA)

Short-term financial assistance is available to HIV+ individuals and families experiencing financial crisis. Qualifying expenses include past due rent and necessary utilities (gas, water & electric) Rental or utility deposits are not qualified expenses. This service is funded federal appropriations made to the City of Atlanta's Housing Opportunities for People Living With AIDS (HOPWA) program.

Requests may be submitted for up to $500 and are approved based on individual circumstances and availability of funds. Applicants are required to be case managed clients of AID Atlanta or a verifiable case management agency, and must complete the request for assistance through an AID Atlanta Case Manager or other agency Case Manager that has received AID Atlanta STRMU Training. Applicants must provide proof of medical status, income verification, and a copy of the lease or bill for which the request is being made.

Short-Term Financial Assistance (Joining Hearts)

Through the generous donation of the Joining Hearts Foundation, AID Atlanta is able to assist HIV+ clients in need of financial assistance for housing related expenses that are disallowable by federal grants. Qualifying expenses may include past due rent and necessary utilities (gas, water & electric) and other housing-related expenses such as moving expenses, security deposits, reconnection fees, and late bills on units.

Requests may be submitted for up to $500 and are approved based on individual circumstances and availability of funds. Applicants are required to be case managed clients of AID Atlanta, and must complete the request for assistance through an AID Atlanta Case Manager. Applicants must provide proof of medical status, income verification, and a copy of the lease or bill for which the request is being made.

Long-Term Rental Assistance

The Long-Term Rental Assistance program is a 6-12 month rental subsidy for case managed clients of AID Atlanta on the brink of self-sufficiency. The program's function is to temporarily minimize monthly expenses, so that the participant may focus on obtaining additional training or education.

Participants of the program are required to pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income towards rent. The agency provides the remaining rental amount through HOPWA -- Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids -- funds. In order to qualify, applicants must have stable income, under the care of a medical provider and be compliant with case management.

In addition, participants must be leasing rental property. Home mortgages do not qualify for subsidy through the LTRA program. Applications must be completed and submitted by the applicant's assigned case manager.

Financial Assistance for Emergency Lodging

Families or individuals in emergency housing crises may be assisted with emergency lodging through AID Atlanta's housing services. Situations appropriate include, but are not limited to evictions, hospital discharge, jail discharge or fleeing domestic violence.

In order to qualify, there must be an active, realistic plan to obtain stable housing. AID Atlanta assists by covering weekly cost for a hotel stay. Additional time at a hotel may be covered depending on circumstances and cost shares.

Medication and Insurance Assistance

AID Atlanta is an official enrollment site for the State of Georgia's Department of Human Resources AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and the Insurance Continuation Program(ICP). Eligible clients are assisted with applying and re-certifying for these programs.

Though AID Atlanta staff will assist with the application and re-certification application process, DHR makes all final approvals on every application and the funds are directly administered through the state program. All case management and MIAS staff are also trained to help eligible clients apply for medication assistance programs offered through various pharmaceutical companies.

Transportation Assistance

Transportation assistance is provided to individuals with little or no income who are seeking housing and other related case management services. MARTA tokens and half-fare cards are provided to case managed clients at all AID Atlanta case managed sites.

Massage Therapy

Professional massage therapy is available to all clients of AID Atlanta. Volunteer practitioners who are certified with no less than 600 hours of Massage Therapy training provide the services. AID Atlanta's Massage Therapy Program provides a viable and accessible complimentary approach to wellness for those who must deal with the debilitating physical effects and emotional distress of living with HIV disease. Services are available by appointment only.
